I didn't know this practice existed until I saw the movie Grown Ups with Eric recently. I was appalled that anyone would remove their animal's vocal cords simply because they were too lazy to train their dog to not bark perpetually.
It's up there with docking your dog's tail and pinning their ears. Horrible. They weren't born that way and they aren't asking to be altered!

Just remember...sometimes people have tried VERY HARD to train their dogs not to bark but some breeds just have it in them! ;)
